Exploring Story’s Impact
from folk and fairy tales to slams and personal stories

Featuring Lyn Ford, a fourth-generation, nationally recognized, Affrilachian Storyteller

Storyteller Lyn Ford learned and honed her skills as she listened to the elder storytellers in her Affrilachian (African-American Appalachian) family.  Lyn is a nationally recognized raconteur, workshop presenter, keynote speaker, writer, mentor for young authors at Thurber House, and teaching artist with the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education and the Ohio State-Based Collaborative Initiative of the Kennedy Center.  Lyn shares the oral tradition with interaction, rhythm and rhyme, humor, personal history, and heart.  Lyn also incorporates these skills into her work as a Certified Laughter Yoga Teacher, in presentations titled “Laughter and Stories”.  Lyn’s storytelling will be a part of the Cape Clear International Storytelling Festival in Ireland in 2018.

With co-editor, friend and fellow storyteller Sherry Norfolk, Lyn announces the December 2017 publication of Storytelling Strategies for Reaching and Teaching Children with Special Needs and the 2018 publication of The Promise of Peace: Wisdom, Work, and Wonder.
